China's Most Influential SF Creation Competition
The Morning Star Awards was founded by SGF. It is China's largest and most influential original science fiction literary competition, discovering hundreds of outstanding SF writers and launching many acclaimed works.
The awards feature multiple tracks covering short fiction, novels, SF screenplays, SF art, film industry, youth creation and more, providing comprehensive support for SF creators.

As a science fiction literary competition with broad influence in China, we are always committed to promoting the growth of China's science fiction original power and the emergence of excellent works. Founded in 2015 as a national science fiction literary works collection competition, the Morning Star Awards has pioneered the use of investment thinking to support science fiction creation through public welfare funding. Through eleven consecutive editions of the "Morning Star Awards" competition, the total number of submissions exceeded 7180, the total number of entries exceeded 100 million words, and nearly 9400 science fiction works emerged. More than 80 potential science fiction creators have been rewarded and funded. Over the past eleven years, the "Morning Star Awards" has provided a new platform for domestic science fiction literature, with unique themes and support for newcomers every year. More than 350 individuals and institutions have won the "Morning Star Awards" award, earning it the title of the first stop for professional science fiction writers in China. Science fiction literature has injected a continuous stream of vitality into its creation, It has also cultivated batches of excellent newcomers for the domestic science fiction industry.
Since its launch in 2016, it has been held six times and has received over 2980 participants and 2475 entries (including individual and team works) from across the country. These entries include illustrations/comics, picture books, animated videos, and more, covering millions of people. The total prize money awarded is over 700000 yuan. Through the competition, multiple science fiction related visual effects, film and television companies, studios, and more than 30 science fiction visual art talents have been incubated, represented by Mancas Visual Effects, which focuses on the top fluid and disaster special effects research. Among them, the works have been selected for the world's top fantasy art annual review "Spectrum" Zhang Luye, a leading concept designer for Chinese mecha in the gaming industry, Shark Dan, an illustrator for "Science Fiction World," and Ni Zhenjie, a producer and director of the science fiction anime "Star Skeleton Knight," have held large-scale science fiction art exhibitions and international exchange events in Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Nantes, Dunhuang, Shangqiu, and other places, attracting over 1600 mainstream media reports nationwide.
The first contests was held at the 2017 Shenzhen (International) Technology Film and Television Week, with the aim of creating a highly influential film and television industry competition platform in the Greater Bay Area through film industry competitions and film venture capital associations, and exploring and cultivating potential film and television industry enterprises. The first competition has produced numerous outstanding talents and related enterprises such as young director Wen Shipei and Wang Renchao, which has played a demonstrative role in the development of the science fiction industry, bringing inspiration and integration opportunities to science fiction practitioners and enterprises, and establishing the innovation chain, industry chain, and value chain of Shenzhen science fiction. As the first professional competition in China to focus on science fiction film and television industrialization enterprises, the competition focuses on promoting the development process of film and television engineering and industrialization. Through activities such as science fiction film and television industry competitions and the release of science fiction film and television IPs, it comprehensively showcases and sorts out the industrial chain of Shenzhen's science fiction film and television industry, the power behind film and television industrialization, clarifies its unique positioning and comparative advantages in the global film and television industry map, and provides new ideas and new impetus for the future development of the industry. The awards for works include Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Effects, Best Cinematography, and Best Science Fiction Concept Design; The director category awards include "Top 5 Young Science Fiction Directors of the Year"; The enterprise and team awards include Best Special Effects Production Award, Best Science Fiction Prop Design Award, Outstanding Film and Television Technology Contribution Award, and Best Film and Television Technology Growth Award.
Organizing science fiction competitions for primary and secondary school students is a powerful measure to nurture their curiosity, cultivate their innovative consciousness, and cultivate reserve talents for innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity in various regions. The "Science Popularization · Future" in Shenzhen and the "Science Exploration of the Future" in Guangzhou are both initiated and organized by the SCIENCE & FANTASY GROWTH FOUNDATION to stimulate the interest of primary and secondary school students in science and literary creation, guide them to pursue and explore the mysteries of science, and cultivate the spirit and ability of technological innovation. After the competition, several popular science magazines such as Chongqing's "Creative Little Writer", Shenzhen's "Mangrove", and Lanzhou's "UFO Exploration" published award-winning works for primary, middle, and high school students. Up to now, three sessions have been successfully held, attracting over 1000 primary and secondary schools and 20000 students from all over the country (including Hong Kong and Macao) to participate, and accumulating more than 20000 original science fiction works for young people.
With the theme of "Dunhuang in a Century", we extensively invite Chinese science fiction art creators to gather in Dunhuang, integrate Gansu's historical and cultural assets with tourism resources for literary and multimedia creation, and shape a science fiction competition with unique elements of science fiction and future industries in technology and cultural creative IP. Through contemporary expressions such as science fiction creation competitions, we deeply explore the historical and cultural value of cities, extract and select a group of classic elements and iconic symbols that highlight cultural characteristics, provide creative transformation and development practices for traditional culture in Gansu, promote and facilitate the cultivation and development of local science fiction and copyright industries, discover and discover talents, promote the integration of technology and culture, and ultimately promote the development of innovative cities. This competition lasted for nearly six months and collected a total of 1268 entries, integrating the historical and cultural resources of Dunhuang for thousands of years, shaping a cultural IP with science fiction and future elements. A judging team was invited, including Wang Jinkang, Vice Chairman of the China Science Popularization Writers Association and SCIENCE & FANTASY GROWTH FOUNDATION Supervisor, Han Song, Deputy Director of the Xinhua News Agency News Editing Department and Deputy Director of the Central News Interview Center, and Zhang Ran, a famous science fiction writer and initiator of the SCIENCE & FANTASY GROWTH FOUNDATION. A total of 356 entries were selected, including 236 literary works and 120 multimedia works. After two stages of online voting and professional evaluation, a total of 17 works including "Yellow Sand Reflection" won relevant awards. Currently, the award-winning works such as "Yellow Sand Reflection" have been published and distributed by Dunhuang Literature and Art Publishing House, a subsidiary of Reader Group.
